This mutton-based dish is a traditional meal that has its roots of origin in both Central and South Asian cuisine. It has a good nutritional content and is immensely delicious. Moreover, its aroma, dense curry, and spicy taste make one crave it. The recipe utilizes the goat feet and skull. In addition, traditional spices and seasoning are included to enhance the taste. This mutton curry dish was made a part of the local dishes by South Asian Muslim cooks.

Siri Paye, in general, is immensely popular in Pakistan. In the state of Punjab people even prefer to eat this in their breakfast since they prefer overnight marination methods that add the best flavor to the dish. However, overnight marination is necessary in the case of Beef Paye and not Mutton Paye, where it is optional.

Special Tip To Follow

Directly roasting goat feet and skull pieces on medium to high flame before they are cut into pieces adds better flavor to the dish. Moreover, it is also recommended to wash these pieces after the aforementioned step. On the other hand, you can also prepare the dish using raw mutton pieces as well and roasting them is not obligatory. Also, one should be cautious that the pieces are not overly roasted as this might lead to an overall overcooked dish that doesn’t taste right. In addition, there is a risk of burning the meat.

Bone or Boneless

Since the Mutton Siri Paye recipe uses goat feet and skull, it is recommended to use the meat with bone that is proven to enhance its taste. The bones, when simmered with traditional spices, release the best juices and the dish tastes tremendously good. Moreover, the bones hold the meat together and it won’t melt down and merge with the curry base. This will preserve the meatiness of the dish while adding flavor to it.
