The resignation of Jack Dorsey who had been leading Twitter as the CEO since 2015 will be brought into effect on an immediate basis. However, he will still stay among the members of the board till 2022 to allow the smooth transition. In a statement Dorsey said,

"I've decided to leave Twitter because I believe the company is ready to move on from its founders."

"My trust in Parag as Twitter's CEO is deep. His work over the past 10 years has been transformational. I'm deeply grateful for his skill, heart, and soul. It's his time to lead."

Before joining Twitter, between the years 2006 – 2010, Parag was associated with large scale management research with associations at firms like Microsoft Research, AT&T Labs, and Yahoo! Research.

As far as education is concerned, Agarwal has completed his B.Tech in Computer Science from IIT Bombay, which is among the top institutes in India. Later he completed his Ph.D. also in computer science from the Stanford University in California.

As the CTO in Twitter, he was responsible for the technical strategy of the microblogging site, conducting initiatives to improve the velocity of development and developing the state of machine learning throughout the company.

Before being promoted as the CTO, he had emerged as the first Distinguished Engineer of Twitter because of his successful efforts in consumer and revenue engineering. The audience growth re-acceleration in 2016 and 2017 is also considered among his contributions.

"I am honored and humbled. And I'm grateful for your (Dorsey's) continued mentorship and your friendship. I'm grateful for the service that you built, the culture, soul, and purpose you fostered among us, and for leading the company through really significant challenges."

In the meantime, Twitter along with Agarwal’s appointment as the new Twitter CEO India declared that Bret Taylor who was a member of the company’s board since 2016, has been termed the Independent Chair of the Board which will be brought into effect immediately.
