Know Important Information About The Recent Hawaii Travel Update

Since the world turned 360 degrees since the global pandemic began, a vacation to Hawaii has turned out to be a big challenge. The new guidelines have been updated, and as more people get vaccinated, the restrictions start to cut down. Let us have a look at the recent Hawaii travel update.

For months, the only way one could enter Hawaii was after a 14 day quarantine. So nobody preferred this for the purpose of vacation. Then, a reopening date along with an option to get tested before traveling to avoid the 14 day quarantine became a target as the islands faced a surge in COVID-19 and the U.S. as a whole went through a lack of reliable, rapid testing.

Finally, Hawaii introduced an option for pre-travel testing in mid-October. By December, the quarantine time span in Hawaii for travelers who did not avail of the pre-arrival testing option was shortened from 14 to 10 days, following the CDC guidelines that were adjusted.

Then, the islands started to introduce their own policies about reopening. Maui, for instance, began to implement a requirement for a second test for arriving travelers on May 4. On the other hand, the Big Island started to phase out its second test amenities in April.

No Testing Will Be Required For Fully Vaccinated Travellers

There is no need for fully vaccinated travelers to get pre-travel testing or 14 days quarantine upon arrival which starts in early July. Now you may wonder what is the 14 day quarantine rule in Hawaii?

The state is also easing Hawaii travel restrictions 2021 on gatherings and restaurants as the state is asserting it will reach a 60% vaccination rate in a few weeks. That should help with excess crowding and ease the problem of some tourists not getting dinner reservations. According to the state vaccine data, 56% of Hawaii residents are completely vaccinated. Their Government Ige said,

“The case counts are coming down. People are getting vaccinated. And there are fewer and fewer people who are at risk of becoming infected.”

As of July 8, 2021:

  • Hawaii restaurants can reach to 75% capacity
  • Indoor events can reach up to 25 people
  • Outdoor events can have parties as big as 75%

Hawaii Travel Updates On Vaccine Passports

Hawaii asserted that the only documentation that will be accepted is the “CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card” or a printed copy from the “Vaccination Administration Management System.”

And the traveler still has options if they want to use a digital way to show their vaccination or Hawaii travel COVID-19 test status. The state is getting into partnership with two companies — Clear’s Health Pass and CommonPass to enable the process of digital health passes.

Who Can Travel To Hawaii Following Hawaii Travel Update?

International travelers who are from CDC-prohibited countries are still not allowed from entering Hawaii. However, travelers coming from Japan have a pre-travel testing option through approved testing providers that were enacted on Nov. 6, 2020. Travelers from Canada are also eligible for this option.
