Recently, Honda has launched its 2022 edition of the CB400X in its home country Japan with very minor yet powerful modifications to the existing variant. Considering the purpose and the displacement, the India based KTM 390 Adventure is the closest rival to the Japan based CB400X. Here is a very useful Honda CB400X Vs. KTM 390 Adventure comparison.
Features
The KTM 390 Adventure possesses a clear edge in this department with the amazing goodies such as a bi-directional quick shifter and traction control. It also possesses a fancy full coloured TFT display that offers Bluetooth connectivity for pairing smartphones. On the contrary, the 2022 Honda CB400X offers an LCD display but unfortunately misses out on the trend of Bluetooth feature. The lightning setup is however full LED.
Engine
Considering the engine, Honda has always been a winner in this segment. The 2022 version of the CB400X offers an engine with its parallel twin cylinder setup. This makes Honda more smoother and more tractable than the single-cylinder mill of KTM 390 Adventure. The CB400X is powered by a 399cc liquid cooled engine that draws out 45.4bph of power at 9,000rpm and 38Nm of peak torque at 7,500rpm. In comparison, the KTM 390 Adventure is powered by a 373cc unit that draws out 42.3bhp power at 9,000rpm and 37Nm at 7,000rpm. The bike duos receive a six-speed gearbox bearing an assist and slipper clutch.
Additionally, the Honda has been equipped with a 17.7 litre fuel tank that is 2.67 litres larger than that of KTM. Thus, it can be said that on long journeys, you will not run out of fuel very soon with the Honda CB400X 2022.
Hardware
In this segment as well, Honda is a step ahead in terms of the cycle parts. Both the bikes enjoy upside down forks at the front, however, the Honda CB400X gets the preload adjustability that is lacking in the KTM 390 Adventure. Furthermore, Honda has equipped the CB400X with the dual disc brake at the front while the 390 ADV possesses a single disc brake at the front. The Honda CB is limited to the standard dual-channel ABS while the 390 Adventure receives the opportunity to switch off the ABS in the real wheel.
Despite the fact that Honda features more premium components, it seems that the KTM’s latest variant is more agile and manageable owing to the fact that it possesses 177 kg of kerb weight which is nearly 20kg lesser than that of Honda CB400X. Additionally, the Honda’s variant has a low seat height and is more convenient for the shorter riders to touch the ground.
Price
The 2022 Honda CB400X is on the pricier side as compared to the KTM 390 Adventure by a huge margin. The former’s price starts at 8,58,000 Yen in Japan which is around INR 5.72 lakhs. The KTM retails for INR 3.28 lakh in India (ex-showroom, Delhi).
