Realme 9i Review: A Good Option For Budget Buyers

Realme 9i Review: A Good Option For Budget Buyers

It is 2022 and nearly every budget smartphone that is being released has 5G connectivity, with no sign of 5G coming to India. Realme has been releasing numerous 5G smartphones for more than a year now, but surprisingly, its new release the Realme 9i has 4G connectivity. Let us have a look at the Realme 9i review.

It is an entry level offering in the latest Realme 9 series, and will soon be followed by the yet to release Realme 9 Pro and Realme 9 Pro+.  So should you consider this latest smartphone as your next purchase? Let us understand all the aspects of this Realme 9i review.

Realme 9i Review: Design And Specs

In this Realme 9i review let us begin with its specs and designs. The latest launch of Realme in India, the Realme 9i has the latest “Stereo Prism” design. It offers a 6.6 inch display that has thin bezels on the side and top, while the chin that it offers is thicker. You receive a cutout in the extreme top left corner of the screen for the selfie camera. The phone provides a plastic frame along with the power buttons on the left. A capacitive fingerprint scanner is incorporated into the power button which makes it easy to unlock the smartphone. The corners and sides are rounded so that the frame does not dig into your palms when you hold the phone.

This smartphone offers a USB Type C port, 3.5mm headphone jack, primary microphone, and a speaker at the bottom. The top has only space for a secondary microphone.

Now coming to its specifications. The Realme 9i offers a 6.6-inch full-HD display with a 90Hz peak refresh rate, and this can alter dynamically based on the things you are watching. This panel is however one step down taking into account the screen that Realme 8i has which is a 120Hz refresh rate. The Realme 9i is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 SoC. Realme has enacted its Dynamic RAM Expansion (DRE) feature which offers up to 5GB of storage to be accessed as RAM, but is only available on the higher storage options.

This is a 4G smartphone that offers dual VoLTE. Since 5G networks have not rolled out in this country yet, the scarcity of support should not really deter you from choosing this phone. This phone also supports dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5, and four GPS standards. The Realme 9i offers a 5,000mAh battery and this smartphone weighs 190g which can be managed. The user will get a 33W charger in the box.

Realme 9i Review: Camera And Price

Now in this Realme 9i review, it is time to talk about the camera. The Realme 9i offers a triple camera setup that comprises a 2-megapixel macro camera, 50-megapixel primary camera, and a 2-megapixel black-and-white camera. For the purpose of selfies, it offers a 16-megapixel front camera. The camera app of Realme is convenient to use. The user gets several quick toggles for AI and HDR scene enhancement. The smartphone was quick to lock the focus and set the exposure correctly.

Photos that are clicked with the primary camera were pixel-binned to 12.5-megapixels by default. Daylight images had medium dynamic range and looked good as is, but zooming revealed poorer detail mainly in the shadows. When clicking photos in bright lights, the phone enabled HDR on its own and managed the exposure well. An ultra-wide-angle camera would have enhanced the setup, but sadly, that feature is not here.

This latest smartphone from Realme is available with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage variant that is priced at Rs. 13,999, or with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage variant that is priced at Rs. 15,999 in India. This phone is available in two color options, Prism Blue, and Prism Black. This was a higher-end configuration in Prism Blue for this Realme 9i review.

Verdict

After this Realme 9i review it can be concluded that the starting value of the Realme 9i in this country is Rs. 13,999 and this could make it convincing to those aiming to buy a smartphone on a budget. However, the more expensive option competes with other smartphones that provide better performance addition with 5G connectivity, which the 9i does not offer. This latest model provides stereo speakers and quicker 33W charging, which are upgrades over its predecessor. However, the refresh rate of 90Hz is a disadvantage compared to the 120Hz display on the previous Realme 8i. And if you are wondering, is Realme 9i good for gaming? Then as per the processor that it offers, it is good for gaming. You will find many other Realme 9i reviews on quora.
